Two More New Puzzle Blogs

If your puzzle interests run towards the World Puzzle Championships, perhaps this blog is for you. There's actually been quite a lot posted there already in the week-or-so since it opened, and some of it is quite relevant with respect to the puzzles-as-game dynamic. (Thanks to Chris Dickson for starting the blog and posting about it here in the comments to a previous posting.)

On the other hand, if your tastes run to the NYTimes crossword, perhaps this blog is for you. It's a good way to keep up with what the fuss is about for various NYT puzzles if, like me, you're too busy to actually avail yourself of a subscription to the puzzles themselves.

I have always been a big puzzle fan...especially the difficult ones. I recently came across I guy from Dallas who builds these from home. I found and purchased his work on Ebay and then went to his website for more (www.turtleteasers.com).

I have now purchased several from him and I must say, have been really impressed with them all! He has many different types and styles, and they are so detailed and unique (including the box), and can even be customized with pictures.

Although the site home page is a bit plain, he has some pics of various puzzles under the links. Contact him from the site if interested. (Tell him “Russell” from St. Louis sent you there). He probably knows me by now and might discount them a bit.

Found this really cool sudoku game for mobile phones. It has a really handy notation feature that out the boring leg work and leaves in the interesting logic element.

Best of all, it's totally free!

Comes as part of a stop smoking app from Nicotinell - also handy if you're hooked on the ciggies i guess

I have noticed a new puzzle in Germany that is slowly creeping into all the major newspapers. The puzzle is oddly called Str8ts and it is actually very good. Most people I have spoken to regarding this puzzle prefer it over Sudoku , the main reason is because Str8ts is so relaxing. I have it on my iPhone and play it on my daily train rides. Funny to watch the person beside you filling the same puzzle out with pen and paper.

The puzzle can be played online at www.str8ts.de
